Fort Mill's October Fits Inside a Few Downtown Blocks, and Oct. 17 Is When It All Lines Up

October 15, 2026

Scarecrows went up along Main Street, White Street, Tom Hall, Academy and Clebourne the week before October started. Installation for the 12th Annual Fort Mill Scarecrow Crawl ran from Sept. 25 through Oct. 1. Local businesses, schools, organizations, families and individuals built the displays, and the Town reviewed every application before accepting it. The displays stay up through Oct. 31.

Three separate groups are running October events downtown. The Town of Fort Mill runs the Scarecrow Crawl, the Farmers & Artisans Market and the Fall Festival. The Fort Mill History Museum runs its lantern-lit walking tours. The restaurants and the brewery on Main Street keep their usual hours. No one planned a single combined schedule, but all of it fits inside the same few blocks. You could walk the whole month's downtown calendar in an afternoon, and on Saturday, Oct. 17, every downtown event happens on the same day.

The scarecrow map is already a walking route

The official location list for the crawl names Main, North and South White, Tom Hall, Academy, Clebourne, Railroad Avenue, Millstone Park and Walter Elisha Park. The Farmers & Artisans Market sets up at Veterans Park, 106 N. White St. The Fall Festival takes over Walter Y. Elisha Park at 345 N. White St. The Lanterns & Legends tours start at the Fort Mill History Museum, 107 Clebourne St.

Every one of those addresses is on a street that already has scarecrows. Each walk between events takes you past more displays, so getting from one event to the next is part of the crawl.

The public vote turns the route into a game. From Oct. 7 through Oct. 25, the Town counts likes on the Scarecrow Crawl photo album pinned to the top of the Town of Fort Mill's Facebook page. Only likes on that official album count toward the People's Choice Award and the Best Town of Fort Mill Department Entry. Winners will be announced Oct. 27 on the Town's social media pages, and each winner receives a trophy and a prize. The Town also has a category just for its own departments, so town staff are in the running too.

Saturday, Oct. 17, from morning market to lantern light

On most October weekends you can catch one or two downtown events. On Oct. 17 they all fall on the same day, with only a short gap between them. Here is how the day lines up, using the Town's and the museum's published schedules:

Time Event Where
9 a.m. to noon Fort Mill Farmers & Artisans Market Veterans Park, 106 N. White St.
All day Scarecrow Crawl displays Main, White, Tom Hall, Academy, Clebourne, Railroad Ave., Millstone Park, Walter Elisha Park
2 to 6 p.m. Fort Mill Fall Festival Walter Y. Elisha Park, 345 N. White St.
6:45 and 7:45 p.m. Lanterns & Legends Walking Tour Starts at Fort Mill History Museum, 107 Clebourne St.

The festival time is the one detail to check before you go. The Town's calendar lists the festival from 2 to 6 p.m. The York County Visitors Bureau's festival page says 4 to 8 p.m. That page also describes music in the new Fort Mill Amphitheater, vendors, food trucks, kids' activities, trick-or-treating and costume contests. The Town runs the event, so its 2 to 6 p.m. listing is the one to plan around. A quick look at the Town calendar that morning will settle it.

If the Town's hours hold, the festival ends 45 minutes before the first lantern tour leaves Clebourne Street. That leaves enough time to eat on Main Street. The Lanterns & Legends tour is in its 10th year. Guides carry lanterns through the historic streets and tell stories about the town's past along with a few local mysteries. Tickets are $17 per person through the museum's website, and groups of 15 to 20 can book a private tour by contacting the museum. For parking, the museum suggests the lot behind Hobo's on Main Street, the municipal lot on Tom Hall, or Veterans Park. Veterans Park is also where the market sets up that morning, so one parking spot can cover the whole day.

Where to eat between stops

The Oct. 17 schedule has two open stretches, from noon to 2 p.m. and from 6 to 6:45 p.m. All four of these places sit on the same streets as the scarecrows:

  • Hobo's, 213 Main St., is open daily and takes online orders. Its lot is also on the museum's parking list.
  • FM Eatery, 217 Main St., is open daily, takes online orders and has posted a Fall 2026 menu.
  • Amor Artis Brewing is listed at 204 Main St. in the Downtown Fort Mill member directory. The brewery calls itself a community brewery in historic downtown Fort Mill. Its name also appears on the crawl's shop list on Eventeny, alongside 22Five, Bricks & Minifigs Fort Mill, Crossings on Main and FM Eatery. That list doesn't say which shops built a scarecrow, so you'll have to look for yourself.
  • Humble Cup Coffee Co., 414 Tom Hall St., is on one of the crawl streets and posts its shop hours online. It also rents out its space after hours.

Hobo's, FM Eatery and Amor Artis all sit on the same short stretch of Main Street. You can finish dinner and walk to Clebourne Street in time for the 6:45 tour.

The Greenway runs its own October, mostly when downtown is quiet

The Anne Springs Close Greenway posts its own calendar, and it mostly fills the hours when nothing is happening downtown. On Oct. 17, the downtown events run from midmorning into the evening. The Greenway's day starts earlier and also runs late.

  • 7:45 a.m.: Pop-up Class: Move. Rise. Outside.
  • 9 a.m.: Shared Flow Yoga
  • 10 a.m. to noon: Backyard Habitat Workshop with the South Carolina Wildlife Federation
  • 10:30 a.m. to noon: Donkey Meet & Greet
  • 6 to 9 p.m.: Live Music at the Greenway Canteen

The habitat workshop and the donkey visit run at the same time as the farmers market, so on Oct. 17 you'll be choosing between them. The Canteen's live music runs from 6 to 9 p.m. that night, so it overlaps the lantern tours. The early yoga sessions, though, are over before the market opens.

The Greenway's other big October dates fall on weekends when downtown has less going on:

  • Oct. 9 to 11: The October Campout runs from 4 p.m. Friday to 10 a.m. Sunday. The Oct. 10 market runs from 9 a.m. to noon that Saturday, so campers can make it to Veterans Park in the morning.
  • Oct. 24: Boil, Brew & 'Que runs from 3 to 8 p.m. The market at Veterans Park runs that morning from 9 to noon, so you can do both without a conflict.
  • Oct. 31: Family Farm Day: Halloween runs from 9 a.m. to noon. The month's last Farmers & Artisans Market runs the same three hours that day. This is the one weekend morning when you'll have to pick one.

The last two weeks of the month

After Oct. 17, downtown gets quieter, but a few things still happen. Lantern tours run Oct. 22, 23 and 24, then finish with Oct. 29 and 30. Scarecrow voting on the Town's Facebook album closes Oct. 25, and the Town announces winners Oct. 27. That leaves the final week for walking the route again, this time knowing which scarecrows won.

The scarecrows stay up through Oct. 31, so on the last market Saturday the displays are still up, and tours are still running the night before. Early in the month, the Lanterns & Legends tours had two tours a night, at 6:45 and 7:45 p.m., and the final tour of the season is Friday, Oct. 30.

At Bullock & Co., we keep calendars like this one handy because the people we work with ask what a regular Saturday looks like in a place before anything else. If you have family or friends looking at Fort Mill this fall, Oct. 17 is a good day to show them. Let's talk about your next move.
